Hannah @ a Quiet Spot says
Great list! I would add Little Women, and if you want the less fictionalized version, the Newbery winning Invincible Louisa.
Also, is there a good book about Abigail Adams?
LisaRose says
Louisa May Alcott (author of Little Women), would be a fantastic woman to study too. Not only a wrtiter and nurse but apparently “a supporter of reform movements including antislavery, temperance, women’s education, and women’s suffrage”.
Homegrown Mom says
I did have Little Women on the list originally, not sure where it went! It is my 7 year old’s absolute favorite book. She would be horrified if she knew I left it out!
sara says
These are not novels – but we found them quite interesting.
Women of the American Revolution, by Louise Slavicek. (We got it at the Library) This book had mini-biogrophies of various women who took a role in the politics and the fighting of the American Revolution. It would be for older girls. My daugher is 9, and a fourth grader. It was a bit of a stretch, but I went through and picked out the most interesting ones.
Another book is We Were There Too, by Phillip Hoouse, about children (boys too so…) breaks up American History into periods (conveniently!) and using primary documents and first person accounts, children tell about their experiences during the wars and peacetime periods of American history.
What I great post! I will be looking at some of these that we don’t have! Especially the list of missionaries!
Homegrown Mom says
We were there too sounds awesome, I’ll have to check that out.
Lindsay says
It’s not only about girls, but we’ve really enjoyed “I heard Good News Today” that is part of the Sonlight curriculum. It chronicles missionaries since Jesus’ death and there are a lot more women than I expected to see. We’ve enjoyed reading it.
Brad says
Enjoyed your about Jesus page, Angela. Keep serving.
LisaRose says
WOW, inspiring, brave and intelligent women … far too many of us to list … lol How about Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey, Joy Adamson for the animal lovers, buiness women, Coco Chanel, Elizabeth Arden, Oprah WInfrey, for the “older” girls and writers like Jane Austin, Alice Walker, HomegrownMom and so on. My girls are currently enjoying studying Elizabeth 1 although I think they enjoyed her “off with her head” father more.
Sereina says
Great list! I would add Corrie Ten Boom. I love her story, and The Hiding Place is one of my favorite books.
Homegrown Mom says
Look again, it’s there 😉
Angie @ Many Little Blessings says
What a fabulous list! We are reading Caddie Woodlawn right now. (And the Little House books are amongst our very favorites.)
Kirsten H says
Another great series of “lightly-fictionalized biography” is the Betsy-Tacy series by Maud Hart Lovelace. She based the series very closely on her own life growing up in Mankato, Minnesota in the late 19th and early 20th century. The first four books in the series should appeal to girls ages 5 and up, and the final six books would appeal to a little bit older audience (maybe age 10 or 12 and up — these are the books where Betsy is in high school and young adulthood).
More about the author and the books here: https://www.betsy-tacysociety.org/
They are probably my all-time favorite book series about girls, so I love to tell people about them, as outside of Minnesota I don’t think they are nearly as popular!
Homegrown Mom says
My mom is a huge fan, and we have a couple! I didn’t know they were based on true stories, though! Cool 🙂

You need to ensure you’re purchasing from a credibled seller and that you’re purchasing a product that has
actually been carefully manufactured with top of the line quality
assurance. Going on a liquid protein diet seems popular
these days. In addition, he notes that it can help emotional
eaters by increasing serotonin levels, which in turn can help with sleep
and mood.

😛 And, if you are posting at additional online
social sites, I’d like to keep up with anything fresh you have to post.
Could you make a list every one of your public pages like your twitter feed, Facebook page

First off I want to say superb blog! I had a quick question which I’d like to ask if you do not mind.
I was curious to find out how you center yourself and clear your head before writing.
I have had a difficult time clearing my mind in getting
my thoughts out. I truly do enjoy writing but it
just seems like the first 10 to 15 minutes are generally wasted simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any recommendations or hints?
Many thanks!
