I am making many new friends here on my blog, so today I wanted to share a little about myself.
There’s something you really need to know if we’re gonna be friends.
I am a slob.
Yes, I love to make lists and come up with housekeeping systems for fun, but the truth is I need those lists and I need those systems. That’s right, after 32 years of life I still need a reminder to make my bed.
Even with the list, I don’t always make the bed. I also buy baking soda by the gallon because I’ve left wet clothes in the washer overnight too many times to count. I will walk by an empty plate five times before I stop to scoop it in the trash. I leave my blow dryer out on the bathroom counter long after I’ve dried my hair. As I write this, I am surrounded by the ads from Friday’s paper. It’s Sunday. (To be fair, they are Black Friday ads and I’m saving them for Christmas ideas!)
Why do you need to know this? Because if we’re friends for long, chances are you are going to stop by sometime unannounced. And when you do, I really don’t want you to be offended if you hear me moving around inside my house, shushing my kids.
I promise I don’t hate you. I just haven’t swiffered yet and am probably still wearing my pj’s. If we’re really good friends, I’ll let you in and you’ll have to scoot half-folded laundry over on the couch to sit down. That’s okay, ‘cause I’ll always be in the middle of folding that laundry when you walk in the door. We’ll just pretend it’s fresh out of the dryer and not three days old, okay?
Sometimes my real-life friends read my blog and call me a domestic goddess. Then I invite them over in the middle of the day when I haven’t had time to prepare for company. When they leave, they feel much better about themselves. It’s like a little service I do.
Aren’t I nice?
Do you feel better now, too?

Bwahahaha — I so totally could have written this post! I can’t remember the last time I made my bed. Eric just does it each night before he goes to bed. Me — I couldn’t care less. I’m just going to sleep in it again, right?
Not only can we still be friends now, maybe we can even be better friends. 😉

I call it setting priorities. Your priorities are your family and sometimes that just doesn’t leave time for making the bed. At least that’s the excuse I give myself 😉 Bruce needs a made bed, but he does it himself. Sometimes when I get to sleep in later than him, I try to make the bed as soon as I get up, but only as a means to tell him I love him with action. If he wasn’t there, my bed would probably rarely get made.

I agree with Rhonda. The rest of the house gets clean and then I stop there. The kids have to clean up their room once in a while, but mom and dad’s is destroyed. Yep. And now that I dont run a business in my home, I let stuff go more often.
Its ok to be a real person, Angela. Love the blog.

Oh, to be the one born with the organizing gene! We have a rule the last one out of it makes it. We did away with the top sheet which just got crumpled at the foot of the bed anyway and switched to a duvet cover that I can wash with the other bedding. No fancy makins here just straighten the blanket. I think if I had a bigger home I wouldn’t make the bed, but the bedroom is my only sanctuary and I enjoy knowing at least one part of my house is neat and tidy! Sometimes it is the ONLY part of my house neat and tidy! LOL

You are hilarious.
I love your honesty.
Your confession reminds me of what I said to Uncle Frank one time when he and Aunt Dorothy dropped in unexpectedly. Gesturing to our tumble of laundry, newspapers, and lets admit it right here, probably a bag or two of Cheetos–I announced–“Sometimes it’s better, sometimes it’s worse.’ To which he replied, ‘Sometimes it’s WORSE?’
Hummph–you know my motto daughter–Life is short–the beach calls.

I would be your friend. I don’t usually make my bed either, unless I know my mother-in-law is stopping by. And my dh makes it up at bedtime frequently. I need to have a few more people over soon too to dispel any myths about my life. That’s a good ministry….real life! Thanks for sharing yours.

I came here via your post on The Homeschool Classroom about what to say when people don’t agree with your choice to homeschool. I’m a 1st year HSing mom and have no suggestions for you, but wanted to “meet” you since your post was so open and honest. 🙂
Well, I guess I got to “meet” the real you today, huh? LOL! As I read, I kept thinking… wow, we’re a lot a like! I can’t make my bed without a reminder either! I can’t find the recliner in my bedroom because it’s full of clean clothes (about 7 days old) that have been laid out nicely waiting to get hung up. Now, 7 days later, it’s just a pile. And if I were a domestic goddess, I’d iron them… but I’m not, so I won’t. LOL!… I just keep giggling to myself. It helps. 🙂
Anyway, so glad to meet you! I look forward to reading more of you blog!

Ha! I remember speed cleaning when an unexpected guest came over. “Hurry! just put it on my bed!”

I could have written that post too! I have recently started trying to make the bed every day. For me, that’s a really big deal! I just can’t seem to get organized and get it together at all! 🙂
